Hello & Welcome
Welcome to the home of Girl in the Wilderness! A space for women to experience and explore Africa safely. Founded by Antje Mouton - a woman with a strong passion for showcasing Africa and its wonders and a heart set on conserving our natural wilderness - Girl in the Wilderness is home to intrepid adventurers, laid back travellers and ladies who all share the same sense of adventure and passion for travel.
About
Antje Mouton
Antje has spent her life dedicated to the conservation of wild spaces through ethical tourism practices. Having worked alongside brands such as Wilderness Safaris, National Geographic, Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel, she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to operations and travel logistics.
In 2012, Girl in the Wilderness started as an Instagram handle, a way for her to document her travels across the African Continent and the remote places she was visiting. She has a deep rooted passion to showcase the continent and empower women as she travels. This lead to Girl in the Wilderness becoming a brand dedicated to conservation, travel and adventure.
An avid photographer she loves heading into any remote region with her husband, and her Suzuki Jimny to explore and photograph their adventures.
Antje lives with her husband in a nature reserve on the fringes of the Greater Kruger National Park. The only thing she loves more than travel and her husband, are their three Belgian Malinois dogs.
About
Janelle Goodrich
Janelle has dedicated her life to wildlife and the conservation of endangered species. Starting out as a veterinary nurse in 1995 in the town of Louis Trichardt. In 2003 she relocated to the small town of Hoedspruit to join Provet Wildlife Services with the world renowned Dr Peter Rodgers.
Janelle has spent the last 20 years working in these remote wilderness regions alongside vets, researchers and government officials to conserve keystone species across Africa. She has worked on incredible projects, such as repopulating TB Free Buffalos into reserves, dehorning Rhinos (she remembers every single rhino she has ever dehorned) and working to rehabilitate pangolins, the most trafficked animal on the continent.
An avid fisherwoman, Janelle always has her retractable fishing rods with her and will always seek out the perfect spot to cast her line. When she is not fishing, or wearing her superwoman cape, she relaxes at home with her partner in a wildlife reserve just outside Hoedspruit.
